Welcoming New Staff
Meet our New CHS Staff!
Mr. Mason Math Teacher
My name is Nik Mason, and I am one of the math teachers at Colton High School. I am married, and I have two daughters; Scarlett (3) and Indie (7 months). I went to school locally at both CCC and MHCC, and then went on to get my degree in mathematics education at Brigham Young University - Hawaii. I love math, love teaching, and loving helping people learn! My family and I love to travel and love the outdoors, especially hiking. I also love sports, and played soccer, baseball, water polo, and swam when I was growing up. I'm excited to be a part of the Colton community, and to do my part in continuing the tradition of excellence and achievement here!
Mrs. Kyle Science Teacher
Before becoming a biology teacher, I earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Oregon. I then later got a doctorate studying a brain disease in wildlife. Although I am from Wyoming, I really love being an Oregonian! I love hanging out in our beautiful mountains and also heading in to Portland for time in the city. I have two daughters and two dogs that my family has rescued, a chihuahua and a large mutt. On my free time, I enjoy seeing live music, playing my guitar and ukuleles, and reading books in my portable hammock.
Mrs. Gabriella Sohl-Taylor English Teacher
I am a native Swede who first came to the U.S. in 2011 and became a permanent resident in 2013. I grew up in a small community surrounded by spruce and pine forests, grain fields and cows, and I come from a family of teachers, lumberjacks, hunters and farmers. I graduated from Mid Sweden University with a MA in English Studies before acquiring my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Teaching (Language Arts with an ESOL endorsement) from University of Oregon. Language has always been a passion of mine, and I am excited to share this passion as well as my language and life journeys with you all.
In my free time I hang out with my husband. We enjoy exploring Oregon, working out, and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy gluten free baking, going for long walks with our dog, and learning new languages. I am currently taking Spanish classes, and long term would like to be reasonably fluent in at least four languages.
My first two years were spent at Sherman County School in Moro where I greatly enjoyed exploring Language Arts alongside students from all grades 7-12. Last year I taught English Language Development in Boardman. I expect hard work and an open mind from my students as this is what I bring to the classroom, and I look forward to meeting and working with every single one of you.
