School Closure Procedures
Winter weather brings uncertainty and can cause unexpected delays, closures, or the utilization of snow bus routes. The decision to keep school open, to close, or to have a delayed opening is based on our ability to safely transport students to and from school. It is very important for a family to have a plan with their student on what they should do in the event that school is let out early.
Colton School District uses FlashAlert and School Messenger to send word of any changes to our schedule. FlashAlert informs local media outlets and can send messages to those who have signed up on FlashAlert to be on the district mailing list. School Messenger has the ability to send out email, phone, and text messages to families enrolled at Colton. We will also post an alert on our website in the event of delays or closures.
Types of Closures:
- School is Closed - All students stay home
- Late Opening - A late opening allows for the roads to clear to allow safer transportation. If announced, Colton usually has a 3-hour delay
- Early Dismissal - On rare occasions the district many decide to close school early which most often would be due to a strong storm that came in the middle of the day and to ensure all students get home safely, school closes early.
Because Colton is in a rural area, when storms hit, the impact to our roads is often long-lasting. Snow-routes help provide greater safety for our staff and students. Please visit the Transportation page for information on Snow Routes.
